Two years ago there was only one French ?alpaga? show; last year two, and now we have a third. Thanks to the enthusiasm, energy and abilities of Madame Lion and her daughter Marie-Genevieve a new French alpaca show took place on Saturday March 29 at Vierzon, a small town about 100 miles south of Paris?and it is here to stay. The show took place in the immense Parc des Expositions in the centre of Vierzon and a commendable 86 alpacas turned up to be judged by Dominic Lane. Oh! For these facilities in the UK. A huge hall with excellent lighting and natural light- and in the centre of a town. Where in the UK apart from Birmingham could we find this?

A number of alpacas from the UK had been entered but equality was achieved by each country taking one supreme champion: Les Ros-Bifs taking the Suri cup and Les Frogs, the Huacaya cup. There were also entries from Holland, Belgium and Germany. As one would expect all activities ceased for two hours from 12 noon until 2.00pm for lunch and judging recommenced at 2.20.

The judge summarised the show by saying there were many alpacas he had looked at which would have held their own at any show in the world and special mention was made of a junior white suri female shown by Leah Spillane which the judge commented could have won its class anywhere. It was only beaten to Supreme Champion by an English super stud: Langaton?s Bully Boy.

The mayor and Deputy Mayoress of Vierzon duly arrived to present the cups and to welcome everyone back next year. I for one will be there!
